Attempted homicide suspect found guilty of shooting man 4 times, fracturing his skull

A jury found a Lancaster man guilty Wednesday of shooting a man four times last year, inflicting physical and mental pain he continues to struggle with today, prosecutors said.

Daijour L. Stennett, 32, shot a man in his left shoulder, left side, right shoulder and the back of his head with a .40-caliber handgun Nov. 4, 2021 on the 100 block of Hershey Avenue, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said the man suffered a fractured skull, spine, broken shoulder blade and bleeding in his chest after the shooting. The injuries have caused him seizures, PTSD, weakness and arthritis, all of which he said he continues to struggle with.

A video of the shooting was recovered from Stennett’s phone and played for the jury during trial, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors also held up the sweatshirt the man was wearing the day he was shot, and showed the jury the trajectory of the bullets. One of the bullets went through the hood of the sweatshirt and narrowly avoided causing the man a second head wound, according to the district attorney’s office.

Stennett and the victim knew each other, and had been involved in confrontations dating back to 2017, prosecutors said.

“I told you the defendant wanted [the victim’s] life for years,” Assistant District Attorney Christopher Miller told the jury during his closing argument. “He kept trying and trying and failed. So last November, he tried to take his life.”

When Stennett’s lawyer argued the shooting was self defense, Miller retorted, “It’s not enough for self-defense to be really frustrated or annoyed with somebody.”

The jury found Stennett guilty of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license. His sentence will be determined at a later date.
