John Nogowski book signing set for Saturday at Midtown Reader

Former FSU and NFC first baseman John Nogowski signed with the St. Louis Cardinals last month after he hit .402 for Sioux City in the American Association.

John Nogowski is keeping busy in retirement.

The recently retired teacher and former sportswriter, including time at the Democrat as sports editor, is holding a book signing Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Midtown Reader.

The event will feature the latest editions of his books, “Last Time Out” and “Bob Dylan: A Descriptive, Critical Discography and Filmography, 1961-2022.”

Nogowski - the father of former Florida State first baseman and current professional player John Nogowski - details in "Last Time Out" how some of the greatest players in baseball history left the game.

Among the 42 players featured include Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Ty Cobb, Jackie Robinson, Dizzy Dean, Satchel Paige, Bob Feller, and Carl Yastrzemski.

In a personal twist, the book also features a final chapter on his son's first Major League game.

Nogowski, a 34th-round selection in the MLB Draft out of FSU in 2014 - made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in August 2020. The former North Florida Christian star has played in 53 career games, hitting .261 with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021.

Nogowski's book on Dylan is in its third edition.

It features a detailed discography and filmography into the life and works of the songwriter and singer.
