Henceforth, when someone asks Mishael Morgan if there’s a doctor in the house, she can answer with a resounding yes. On December 7, the same day that she made her first appearance on NBC’s Chicago Med, she Instagrammed out a photo of herself in a lab coat. “Meet Dr. Petra Dupre!” she cheered.

In “This Could Be the Start of Something New,” the Emmy winner’s character was revealed to have headed up the beta-testing team of the fancy new — and extremely high-tech — O.R. 2.0 that was unveiled to the staff by the Dayton Corp.

In response to the news of her new role, Morgan’s Young & Restless family exploded in cheers. “Yes!!!” exclaimed Michelle Stafford, whose Phyllis could really use pal Amanda as a sounding board these days, eh?

Morgan’s on-screen mom, Ptosha Storey (Naya), seconded that emotion. “Yasss!” she cried, turning up the heat with a handful of fire emojis. Bryton James (Devon) and Brytni Sarpy (Elena) also threw in their support. But it was Sean Dominic (Nate) whose response was our favorite. “Hmm… you look like you should be on a soap opera,” he joked. “Just sayin’.”

The episode not only marked Morgan’s entrance as Petra, it marked the exit of Brian Tee as Ethan Choi after eight seasons. As the actress explained to Soap Opera Digest as she dropped to recurring at Young & Restless, “I wanted to tell more cutting-edge stories, just in light of Black Lives Matter and seeing what else is out there that I can be connected to.

“I love [the show] and I love the soaps,” she added, “but there’s so much going on right now.” She couldn’t help but want to “see if there’s another story that I can tell, that I can be an impactful part of.”
