With the flu spreading rapidly this season, a Mobile county urgent care group is asking folks to come to one of their clinics to get a flu shot while at the same time, help a local orphanage. It’s their “Toys for Shots” program.
Walk into any greater Mobile urgent care facility, and you'll see a box clinic staff is trying to fill with toys. Toys that will go to orphan children at Wilmer hall children's home.
"It's a chance for us to help with their Christmas every year," said Jennifer Bethea with Greater Mobile Urgent Care.
Not only do you get the gift of giving during the season by bringing in a toy, you will get a choice of a *free flu shot or B-12 shot.
"It's really important to get a flu shot. We're seeing a ton of flu going around," said Dr. Darren Waters with Greater Mobile urgent care.
Dr. Waters says Greater Mobile urgent care has had the Toys for Shots program in the past, but COVID put a stop to it for a while. This year he said, it was time to bring it back. Wilmer hall does so much for its children, he's asking everyone who is more fortunate to step up and help them out.
"In the past some of the kids haven't even seen Santa. We take out of it more than they do. If you could read the list of toys from these kids. Things like socks, deodorant, shampoo, just the essentials. It breaks your heart."
To see the Christmas list from the children at Wilmer Home, go to Greater Mobile Urgent Care’s Facebook page.
You have until December 14th at noon to drop off a toy to any greater Mobile Urgent Care location.
Toys will be delivered to the kids that day by Santa, who will come in by ambulance.
