Roundup: Utica zaps Zanesville with big 3rd quarter in LCL opener

Trenton Collins popped in 11 of his 24 points in the third quarter Wednesday, as host Utica blitzed Zanesville 27-16 en route to a 66-52 win in a Licking County League opener and crossover game.

Roman Gamble added 15 points and Zach Heckman 14 for the Redskins (2-0, 1-0), which were tied 22-22 at the half with the Blue Devils (0-2, 0-1). Brody McDaniel hit a trio of 3s for nine points.

Rashaud Hampton's 17 points and 12 by Xavier Riley paced Zanesville.

Vikings whip Watkins

Carter Mallernee poured in 23 points and had three assists Wednesday, powering host Northridge past Watkins Memorial 48-35 in an LCL opener and crossover contest.

Justin Townley chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds, while Drew Bingham added eight points and five steals for the Vikings (2-0, 1-0).

Ethan Ryan scored 10 for the Warriors (1-1, 0-1).

Heights wins on road

Jayden Griffith's 14 points led a balanced effort as visiting Licking Heights topped Lakewood 62-51 Wednesday in an LCL opener and crossover tilt.

Ezra Bobo added eight points for the Hornets (2-3, 1-0).

Carter Watts tossed in 16 points and Troy Martindale had 10 for the Lancers (1-4, 0-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Liberty beats Shekinah

Shelby Carr totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals Tuesday, leading Liberty Christian to its first win of season, 32-25, against visiting Shekinah Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Kaitlyn Mohr added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles (1-5, 1-1).
