Gahanna police arrested two men Monday following an arrest warrant for a domestic violence report involving Labaron Thurmond. While serving the warrant, police found Gayelon Spencer Jr. who is a suspect in a homicide in Detroit.
Gahanna Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Lawless said they received word that Spencer Jr. would be at Verdin Court.
"We did have some pre-knowledge that he might be there," Lawless said. "But there wasn't a murder warrant in place when we went to the door it was a probation violation."
Spencer Jr. is in the Franklin County Jail, while Thurmond was released on bond Tuesday morning. However, Thurmond was arrested again Wednesday morning.
He was arrested for kidnapping and violating a restraining order against the same victim. According to court records, he showed up at the victim's job.
Thurmond's domestic violence bond was set at $1,174. Lawless said he hopes the safety of the community is considered at his next court hearing.
"The bond is something that would need to be considered, as far as the safety of our victim and our community members," Lawless said.
Spencer Jr. will remain in the Franklin County Jail until he is extradited to Michigan. Both Spencer Jr. and Thurmond will be in court on Thursday.
