TIME IS NOW 1236. AND TODAY MARKS THE 81ST ANNIVERSARY OF JAPAN’S ATTACK ON THE US NAVAL BASE AT PEARL, HAWAII. THE JAPANESE IMPERIAL NAVY LAUNCHED THE STRIKE ON DECEMBER SEVENTH OF 1941, DRAWING THE UNITED INTO WORLD WAR TWO. MORE THAN 2000 AMERICANS WERE KILLED. THE BOMBINGS ALSO DESTROYED A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF US BATTLESHIPS AND PLANES. PRESIDENT FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT GAVE A SPEECH TO CONGRESS THE FOLLOWING DAY. FAMOUSLY CALLING THE DAY OF THE ATTACK A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, CONGRESS PASSED A DECLARATION OF WAR AGAINST JAPAN, MARKING THE OFFICIAL BEGINNING OF AMERICA’S ROLE IN, WORLD WAR TWO. AND TODAY, ONE NORTH SHORE FAMILY IS GETTING CLOSURE HONORING THE LOVED ONE WHO DIED IN THAT TRAGIC ATTACK. THE REMAINS OF A BOGALUSA NAVY WHO WAS KILLED IN PEARL HARBOR IS FINALLY HOME IN LOUISIANA. AND TODAY HE WILL BE LAID TO REST. HOUSTON TIPPLES DIVERS SERVING THE OKLAHOMA, ONE OF THE FIRST SHIPS TO BE ATTACKED, WHICH SET KILLING 429 MEN ON BOARD TEMPLES WAS EVENTUALLY BURIED AT THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL CEMETERY OF THE PACIFIC, KNOWN AS THE PUNCHBOWL IN HAWAII. IN 2021, HIS BODY WAS FINALLY IDENTIFIED AND LAST NIGHT HE ARRIVED TO A HERO’S WELCOME AT ARMSTRONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND ESCORTED TO HIS FAMILY’S HOMETOWN O

Wednesday marks the 81st anniversary of Japan's attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. One Louisiana family finally received closure and was able to honor their loved one who died in the tragic attack. The remains of Bogalusa Navy Sailor Houston Temples were laid to rest Wednesday. His body was returned to his family earlier this week. Watch the full story in the video player above. Temples died while serving on the USS Oklahoma, one of the first ships attacked. The ship sank and killed 429 men on board. Temples was eventually buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl in Hawaii. In 2021, his body was finally identified, and he arrived to a hero's welcome at Louis Armstrong International Airport on Tuesday night. His body was escorted to his hometown of Bogalusa.
