Could commuter transit be in Wyoming and Colorado’s future?

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - According to officials at the Wyoming Department of Transportation, there are about 30,000 vehicles that travel between Wyoming and the front range every day.

So the Departments of Transportation for Wyoming and Colorado are looking for a way to make that commute easier.

”We actually had an online public meeting where we got just tremendous responses, and there is there is absolutely a desire from the general public to be able to have a connection between the fort collins area and cheyenne,” Ginni Stevens, Senior Transportation Planner with Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are studying the possibility of a transit connection between Colorado and Wyoming.

This study looks at commuter travel, population, employment growth, and other infrastructure.

The service models will evaluate commuters’ needs and locations to maximize the benefit for local transit providers and future users.

They are currently looking to implement current infrastructure, which may mean bus transit initially and may lead to rail in the future.

”It’s still a very early stage conceptually to know what this will look like. So there no time line right now for when a bus is going ot be on the ground. More just looking at which communities are most needed for the transit,” said Jordan Achs, Deputy Public Affairs Officer- WYDOT.

The MPO started the study last year and should wrap by December.
