Crews responded to a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon near N.W. 62nd and Elmont Road just north of Topeka.(WIBW)

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people were taken to a local hospital Wednesday afternoon following a two-car crash just north of Topeka.

The collision was reported around 3:35 p.m. near N.W. 62nd Street and Elmont Road.

Shawnee County sheriff’s officials said at the scene that no one was seriously injured in the collision.

Officials told 13 NEWS that one person from each vehicle was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to the hospital for precautionary purposes.

Sheriff’s officials said the collision occurred when a black Hyundai car that had been traveling south on Elmont Road collided with a silver Cadillac that was traveling west on N.W. 62nd at the T-intersection.

Southbound traffic on N.W. Elmont Road is controlled by a stop sign at that location, while N.W. 62nd is a through-street.

Following the collision, the Hyundai came to rest facing southeast in the intersection. The Cadillac ended up facing south in a grassy area south of the intersection. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

N.W. 62nd Street was completely closed for about an hour at the crash scene as crews responded to the collision.

The intersection was reopened around 4:45 p.m.
