Youth artists gather to enjoy each other and art. This Saturday, Dec. 10, the last art camp of 2022 will begin at 2 p.m. at the Double Six Art Gallery! Ages 6 – 12 years are a guide for this final projected Gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue.

Light Parade

Grants MainStreet Project is excited to announce the details for our Holiday Light Parade. Save the date for Saturday evening, December 10 at the Fire & Ice Park. We've got a lot of cool new things to show you all, and I think you will be impressed. (Can't tell you now because that would ruin all the fun!) Come and enjoy the holiday season with us, and see what kind of fun you can get into.

December 15 Open Healthcare Enrollment

Cibola General Hospital is hosting an Open Enrollment event with BeWell New Mexico. This is an event to help New Mexicans – especially Cibola residents – signed up for affordable healthcare offered by the State of New Mexico. Go to the Cibola Family Health Center at 1423 E. Roosevelt Avenue from 3 to 7 p.m. to get registered. You can RSVP by contacting 1-833-862-3935 for more information.

December 17

Several older actors join Will Ferrell in “Elf”, to be shown at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. The late Ed Asner is Santa Claus. Comedian Bob Newhart is the elf’s father at the North Pole. The elf’s biological father is the late James Caan of “The Godfather” fame. Movie time is 2 p.m. and shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion. Date is December 17.

December 19 Grants Library Board Meeting

The Library Board will meet at 3 p.m. on Dec. 19 at the Grants Public Library, 1101 N. First Street. Agendas will be available on December 16.

December 22 Grants Lodger’s Tax Board

The Lodger’s Tax Board will meet at 9 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available Dec. 19 at city hall.

Holiday Cancellations

Due to the holidays, The Grants Recreation Board, Regular City of Grants Council Meeting, and the Cibola Senior Citizens Advisory Council, and Animal Service Board Meeting have been cancelled.

January 4 Grants Cemetery Board Meeting

The Cemetery Board Meeting is scheduled for Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available Dec. 30 at city hall.

January 7 Free Youth Activities

Welcome 2023 by participating in the Double Six Art Gallery new schedule of youth activities! The first art camp takes place Saturday, January 7, at 2 p.m. Please call a gallery employee at 287-7311 to express your interest. Our feedback helps prepare with adequate supplies. The gallery is on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

January 11 Grants Planning and Zoning Meeting

The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available Jan. 6 at city hall.

January 12 Grants Golf Course Advisory Meeting

The Golf Course Advisory Board will meet at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course, 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard. Agendas will be available on Jan. 9 at the golf course.

Although critics and many movie lovers consider “Some Like it Hot” the best American comedy, Marilyn Monroe hated it. She disliked the plot, having to act dumb and her body-weight (she was pregnant). Attend the film Saturday, January 14 at the Double Six Art Gallery. Time is 2 p.m. We bet you’ll laugh. Movie shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

January 28

In keeping with filling January with comedy, the Double Six Art Gallery will show the classic “Bringing Up Baby” on Saturday the 28th at 2 p.m. Cary Grant plays a married paleontologist. A missing dinosaur bone is a prop in the storyline. Movie shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

January 19 Grants/Cibola County Schools Free Developmental Screening

If you suspect your child has learning concerns or issues, including giftedness, and you would like to have your child’s skills screened, please call Desiraye Lopez 2852643 to make an appointment. The screenings will be conducted on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Special Education Complex 402 North 2nd Street from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Due to COVID 19, no walk-ins at this time, please make an appointment. All screenings are free. Parents will be informed of screening results at the conclusion of the screening session. The screening will be conducted by a team of G/CCS employees. Ages 321 years old can participate.

NWNMSWA accepts Recyclables

The Northwest New Mexico Solid Waste Authority accepts Number 1 and 2 plastic, paper, and cardboard. Locations include Smith’s grocery, Roosevelt Avenue, Grants; John Brooks Supermarket, Highway 66, Milan; and Milan Transfer Station, 2305 W. Highway 66, Milan.
