CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI track and field opens the 2022-23 indoor season this weekend with a pair of competitions in Ames and Iowa City on Friday and Saturday. 

In Ames, Panther multi-event athletes will compete in the Pentathlon and Heptalthon at the ISU Holiday Invitational at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center, while other UNI athletes will compete at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in Iowa City in the first of four trips to Iowa City this indoor season at the Iowa Indoor Track Building.

Carter Morton, who took second place in the Heptathlon at last year's MVC Indoor Championships looks to begin his season on a high note with a strong performance in Ames. A pair of returning Panthers also look to begin the defense of their MVC indoor crowns from a year ago. Jack Sumners begins his 2022-23 season after winning the MVC indoor title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.06, while Sophia Jungling looks to go back-to-back in the 800-meters after a championship time of 2:08.23 last winter.

After competing in Ames and winning last December, Jill Bennett leads the UNI sprinters into Iowa City this year after winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70. Kyle Trunnell will also make his debut at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in the 60-meter hurdles after clinching the title at the ISU Holiday Invitational last year in 8.46.
