Charge of murder dismissed in plea bargain
The last of the three defendants who were charged in the murder of a Bois D’Arc man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday, Nov. 28. Patricia Davis, now 20, received the sentence as part of a plea bargain which saw her plead guilty to first-degree robbery while also agreeing to testify against two people who also committed the crime. In return, a charge of second-degree murder was dismissed.
Riley was part of a trio who robbed Stanley Simon on Oct. 24, 2020; the other two people involved in the robbery were Riley Collier and Michael Stauffer. During the robbery, Collier murdered Simon by shooting him, which he later bragged about. After Collier said Simon “squirmed a little bit,” Davis laughed and said, “He’s not squirming no more.”
Stauffer pleaded guilty on May 11, 2022, to second-degree burglary and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Collier pleaded guilty on Aug. 2 to second-degree murder, armed criminal action, burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm and tampering with a motor vehicle and received a total sentence of 74 years.
Davis pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder charge on Nov. 19, 2021, but for reasons not immediately apparent, was not sentenced until this year.
Collier and Davis also face charges in Webster County in regards to actions they took while trying to evade arrest there, including a high-speed chase on Oct. 24, 2020. Collier faces charges of second-degree assault, vehicle hijacking, stealing and two counts of resisting arrest. Davis faces charges of being an assessor to vehicle hijacking, stealing and resisting arrest. As of press time, no hearings had been scheduled for those charges.
