Even more polarizing than pineapple on pizza, the holiday cup of creamy, sweet eggnog is a Christmas tradition for many.

Only on grocery store shelves during the most wonderful time of the year, Food and Wine decided to put the love-it-or-leave-it seasonal drink to the test to find the best. While the article admits it’s not an exhaustive list, editors tried 15 different store-bought eggnogs and listed their four favorites.

Two brands that made the cream of the crop are whisked up right in Upstate New York. Here’s who they chose:

Upstate Farms Eggnog hailing from Buffalo made the top of Food and Wine’s list for their “exceptionally thick and creamy” eggnog which also comes heavy on the egg flavor. The publication writes, “this is an eggnog for someone who loves a homemade version, but perhaps doesn’t have the time or energy to whip up a fresh batch.”

The Western New York cooperative has around 270 dairy farmers helping to churn out the brand’s original nog, holiday eggnog, and the premium eggnog. The taste testers did not reveal which of the three they tried for this review.

The best eggnog for almost everyone, the Food and Wine judges agreed, was Pittsford Dairy Farms out of Monroe County. The holiday beverage was made for the “nog-curious” the publication writes and highlights the balance of cream and egginess. The article likened the mild, sweet flavor to melted vanilla ice cream while one editor wished for more spice.

While you can purchase Pittsford Dairy Farms eggnog at grocery stores throughout Upstate New York, you can also visit their bakery and cafes in their Pittsford and Rochester locations. In addition to their eggnog, make sure to get some of their delicious baked goods or several scoops of their top notch ice cream.
