DETROIT -- A Popeyes chicken location in Detroit was closed this week for “maintenance” just days after a DoorDash driver filmed cockroaches crawling over food containers in the restaurant.
According to WXYZ-Detroit, a spokesperson with the Detroit Health Department said an inspector went to the restaurant Monday and found evidence of cockroaches. When management learned of the video and the roaches, they voluntarily closed the restaurant, the DHD spokesperson said.
A sign hung on the door of the location near E Warren and Conner Tuesday read “Closed due to maintenance.”
The health department says it inspects the restaurant every six months and is not aware of any prior issues involving this location and cockroaches.
DHD was made aware of the problem after the video was shared with the department last Friday. The video was filmed by a delivery driver who saw the roaches crawling on straws, food containers, countertops and more.
The Popeyes Twitter account has called the issue “unacceptable” and says the location will be closed until the operators are able to “provide our guests with the Popeyes standards and service they deserve.”
