WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - Police in Worcester arrested a man after a fatal shooting Wednesday morning.

In a social media post, the department said an officer was passing through Highland Street around 8:20 a.m. when he came across a shooting victim near a Honey Farms location. The 31-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told 7NEWS 28-year-old Samuel Peckham from Westborough waited for police and was arrested at the scene.

According to the police report, Peckham told police the victim struck his side window and broke it. Peckham then responded by raising a firearm, “pointing it at the victim and discharged one round, striking the victim in the chest.”

The department said Peckham was charged with Assault and Battery with a Firearm and Armed Assault to Murder as their investigation continues.
