A 17-year-old student has been arrested for carrying a loaded gun into a Columbus public school Wednesday morning.
Around 10:33 a.m. Columbus police officers responded to a report of a student that brought a handgun into a school in the 1300 block of Duxberry Avenue.
At the scene, officers met with the security staff and other school personnel. Staff members had detained the student in the school's office and had possession of his backpack and handgun, police said.
A SCCY 9mm semi-auto pistol was recovered from the school staff by police. The gun was loaded, police said.
The 17-year-old was interviewed by Columbus Police Detective Hettinger with the Gun Crimes Unit and has been charged with carrying concealed weapons and conveying a firearm into the school safety zone.
