Owning one of the world’s largest private fleets of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, UPS has over a thousand electric vehicles and continues to build on that number receiving the first of 10 all-electric eCascadia Class 8 semi-trucks. The Freightliner eCascadia is among the first commercially available fully electric semi-truck in the U.S., and the first electric semi-truck in UPS’s fleet.
UPS intends to reach 40% alternative fuel in ground operations by 2025 with further goals to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by 2050. With electrification being a main focus in the company’s decarbonization efforts, they continue to test, validate, deploy and scale commercial electric vehicles throughout their global operations.
According to UPS, the recipe for success while implementing new technology is having the right vehicle to match operational needs while additionally considering where it makes good business sense to grow and scale. Doing so correctly will positively impact the environment, community and the company as well.
For more than 20 years, UPS has been investing in alternative fuel and has a global fleet of more than 13,300 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, aiding in the goal to reach 40% alternative fuel in ground operations by 2025.
Additionally, UPS frequently refreshes its fleet by removing older vehicles from service and replacing them with newer, more environmentally friendly forms of transport such as electric heavy-duty vehicles and electric package cars, which are arriving early next year.
Through an innovation-driven strategy which includes EVs, clear-burning fuel and climate-conscious facilities, UPS is reimagining a more sustainable network. More than $1 billion has been invested by the company in alternative fuel, advanced technology vehicles and fueling stations throughout the past decade.
