For Wednesday’s Breaking the Bias segment, CBS4 On Your side introduces you to Dr. Patricia Delgado and Adriana Acosta, two successful, educated women using their El Paso roots to inspire, uplift and educate others.
“As a doctor in psychology, I knew I had to complete this degree, not only for my own professional benefits, but really to show that there is a way that Latina’s can grow and earn the highest level of education,” Delgado said.
Both Delgado and Acosta juggle motherhood and a career.
“I am a marketer in the fintech industry with SumUp and I focus on the partnerships division with our company,” Acosta said.
“I am the owner, CEO and founder of my consulting firm, which is a research firm called the Bridgify Group,” Delgado said.
Not only do they have full time jobs but dedicate their time to the El Paso nonprofit ALPFA.
“ALPFA stands for the Association of Latino Professionals for America. It was an organization that was established in 1978,” Acosta said. “I started with the organization over three years ago, and just this summer I transitioned as the president of the El Paso chapter.”
Delgado is the director of diversity, equity and inclusion for the chapter.
“Our mission is to empower Latinos, and Hispanics in all sectors of the economy,” Delgado said. “I think our generation of parenting and just generation of Latinas are really focusing on creating a new narrative for Latinas, young Latinos to know that there are possibilities, right, and there are opportunities, and you can be more, just take that leap.”
Tuesday and Wednesday they are holding a conference aimed at empowering other Latinos across the borderland, not to be afraid to take that leap.
“This conference is about the power of our voice,” Acosta said.
The nonprofit has a goal of building each other up, reminding others that something as simple as your voice could move mountains
“When developing the conference, we really wanted to focus on how we can actually use our voice to overcome challenges, or just difficult conversations that sometimes we have, and we don't know how to go about them,” Acosta said.
If you would like to attend the last day of the conference on Wednesday, it is open to the public. You can join virtually from 2-5 p.m. Scan the link in the image below for access to the link.
“One of our biggest goals for 2023 is to expand the membership and just the presence of ALPFA chapter here in El Paso.” Delgado said.
