The mother of Brian Sicknick, a New Jersey native who died defending the Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection, ignored Republican leaders as she accepted an award for her son's sacrifice.
A ceremony was held on Tuesday to honor all of the officers and agents who protected lawmakers during the incident.
Gladys Sicknick, of South River, was there to accept the award for her son Brian, who died in the line of duty that day.
She made a point to shake hands with Democratic Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer. However, she ignored both Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and the outstretched hand of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
