More than $119 million in grants going to Indiana road projects
The Indiana Department of Transportation is giving more than $119 million in grant funding to local road project across the state, many of which are located in Michiana.
The Community Crossings grant program offers matching funds to local road work projects as part of the Governor's Next Level Roads program.
Hoosier cities, towns, and counties submitted applications for the funding in July and August.
Grants were given based on need and current conditions as well as projects' impact on safety and economic development.
The following Michiana communities received funding:
- Argos - $948,963.75
- Bourbon - $135,307.88
- Bremen - $582,991.57
- Bristol - $495,173.43
- Fulton County - $1,000,000
- Kosciusko County - $1,000,000
- LaPorte - $1,000,000
- LaPorte County - $1,000,000
- Michigan City - $697,573
- Mishawaka - $855,623.31
- North Judson - $514,725
- Osceola - $204,577.50
- Pulaski County - $970,757.70
- Shipshewana - $1,000,000
- Starke County - $250,521.99
- Wakarusa - $983,359.50
“Community Crossings is a tremendous opportunity for towns, cities and counties to enhance local road networks across the state,” INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith said. “INDOT looks forward to partnering with locals to deliver on projects that will have a positive impact on safety and bring business to Indiana. I'm excited to see the progress in these communities throughout the coming year.”
Funding for the Community Crossings program comes from the state's local road and bridge matching grant fund.
Since 2016, Community Crossings has provided more than $1 billion in matching fund for local projects.
