If Brock Purdy needs some additional weapons, the 49ers could turn to an old friend.

A 49-year-old old friend.

San Francisco already has a decent collection of skill players, but at quarterback are down to Purdy, their third signal-caller of the year, after injuries this season to both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. Purdy did just fine upon taking over Sunday minutes into the game, and while Garoppolo could be back for the playoffs, the Niners stretch run largely will be done with Purdy under center.

He could use all the help he can get, and Terrell Owens said on “The Morning Roast” that he’s already told the 49ers he’s open to an opportunity.

"Oh yeah, absolutely," Owens first responded when asked if he'd enjoy playing in a Kyle Shanahan system. "Hey look, man, I’ve already kind of sprinkled some words out there. Like yo, if you guys need a receiver, I’m good. Listen here: third down, red zone, trust me. I’m a very valuable asset.

"I’ve been training … I’m already ready, I’ve already reached out to Jed York, I’ve already told him ‘Yo, if you need somebody, I’m definitely a viable (option)."

Later on, Owens wrapped up the interview by doubling down on the desire to play for the 49ers again.

"Y'all still let those Niners know, man," Owens said. "I'm ready, man. All I want is an opportunity, man. That's all I ever wanted."

The 49ers Hall of Famer has flirted with NFL comebacks before, most notably in 2015 when he said he had trained throughout 2014 with an eye on coming back. That never came to pass, but he did some CFL workouts in 2018 and, most recently, took part in Fan Controlled Football this year.

You have to appreciate the ambition from Owens, but the idea of a 49ers team that already has Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and an elite pass-catching back in Christian McCaffrey bringing Owens in seems, well, unlikely.

But hey, never say never.
