Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's highly anticipated docuseries is nearly here—and it's dropping at the most inconvenient time possible.
Volume 1 of Harry & Meghan will premiere tomorrow (Thursday, December 8) on Netflix at midnight PST, or 3 a.m. EST, and that will include the first three episodes. Volume 2 of the series—Episodes 4 through 6—will debut on December 15.
So far, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released two trailers for the upcoming show, both promising a glimpse into the royals' love story and a deep dive into what really happened between them and the rest of the royal family—particularly Harry's brother, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales. (A royal insider told BAZAAR.com just yesterday that William and Kate will not be tuning in, but their aides, and potentially lawyers, will be keeping a very close eye on the content of each episode.)
The first teaser of Harry & Meghan, released on December 1, shows intimate photos from the couple's life together and from their separate childhoods, as well as highly publicized shots of them during public engagements following their nuptials—including with the royal family.
In one photo, Meghan is even seen wiping away tears during the 2020 Commonwealth Day ceremony, the pair's final event as senior royals, before they stepped down from their roles.
The video also highlights why the Sussexes decided to open up their private lives to the public with the series.
"No one sees what's happening behind closed doors," Harry says, as clips of them looking grim at various engagements beside William, Kate, and other members of the royal family flash on the screen. "I had to do everything I could to protect my family."
"When the stakes are this high, doesn't it make more sense to hear our story from us?" Meghan says.
The second trailer, released on December 5, paints a portrait of the Sussexes' complicated time as working senior royals.
"It's really hard to look back on it now and go, 'What on earth happened?'" Harry says in the video, speaking of the troubles that eventually led them to step down from their roles.
"The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution, this feeding frenzy," he says. "It's a dirty game."
As the trailer flashes footage of Harry's mother, Princess Diana, and Kate being hounded by paparazzi, Harry says he was "terrified" when the same thing started happening to Meghan.
"I didn't want history to repeat itself," he explains.
"I realized they're never gonna protect you," Meghan adds.
Clips show a pregnant Meghan looking distressed alongside Harry, as well as the duchess crying on the couch as Harry tries to console her.
"No one knows the full truth. We know the full truth," Harry says at the end of the video.
