LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Tuesday was a day to remember for some young ladies from Sunrise Children’s Services as they were treated to a shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Sunrise Children’s Services provides residential treatment, foster care, adoption services, family services, and psychiatric treatment to nearly 800 kids and family members across Kentucky.
Thanks to community support, the event attendees were given $250 dollars to spend.
But according to Reuben Watson, director of African American engagement and advancement at Sunrise Children’s Services, the spree wasn’t about gifts but rather the effect it will have on the recipients.

“I think that this will have a lasting effect on our kids to be able to have someone they don’t know to come and say hey ‘we wanna make sure you have Christmas and that you get to experience the joy,’” said Watson.
Tuesday’s trip was dedicated to the girls at Sunrise Children’s Services but the boys will also get an opportunity to shop in a few days.
