The planned traffic light at the intersection of 7th Street and Park Avenue in Lakewood is happening soon, Mayor Ray Coles confirmed to TLS.
The Lakewood Township has received bids from four contractors regarding the planned improvements for Park Avenue and East 7th Street intersection, one of the most congested intersections in the town.
The four bids range from as low as $652,653 to as high as $698,551.
The Township is expected to officially award the bid at their next committee meting, which is schedule for Thursday, December 8.
Seventh Street, which connects the East and West sides of town, is widely used and is one of the few thoroughfares leading directly to the central part of town, creating severe traffic issues during peak travel times.
In addition to the planned traffic light signals, the project will include street milling, base repair, paving, storm drainage work, curb, sidewalk and driveway apron replacement, ADA ramps, striping and “other roadway improvements,” according to a public notice posted by the township.
The project is expected to begin in early Spring 2023, Coles said.
This latest road improvement project follows several other recently installed traffic light signals across Lakewood.
Whyyyy
They should probably make traffic lights straight down 7th street instead of 4 way stops would make the thorough fare move and ease the traffic immensely
Early spring 2023-I guess that means soon, although my definition of soon would be Jan-Feb
Have you ever dealt with bureaucracy?
I travel through that intersection almost every day. I have never been stuck in traffic there. Please, there are so many other intersections where this is needed a lot more.
Try driving westbound towards that intersection at around 930am and you will know why it needs a traffic light.
And what about 4th and park? Very dangerous.
And significantly more important.
The problem is that the traffic is bottlenecked on the next block too (between Princeton and the tracks), so the cars going westbound through the light at Park won’t be able to go anywhere.
Does anyone who has the power to make decisions even read what we are writing here? Or is it just an opportunity to vent and debate?
We really need one on the turning lanes East and West Corner of Kennedy and 9 going North and South. Sometimes I have to wait 3 traffic lights to change to make a turn north on 9. Because our residence are so un courteous.
Correction:
Because some of our residents are so un-courteous.
I am very courteous.
With so many intersections around town that are in desperate need of a traffic light it’s crazy to waste a light at this intersection where the traffic isn’t so bad, and considerably speaking not so dangerous. What a waste!!
Traffic light coming soon. Traffic light going sooner after you know what.
