Honey Alexander visitation, memorial set for Friday, Saturday in Nashville

Former Tennessee first lady Honey Alexander will be remembered this weekend with visitations and a memorial service in Nashville.

Alexander, the wife of former governor and U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander and a longtime champion for the health and welfare of children, died Oct. 30. She was 77.

During her time as first lady and beyond, she focused on providing resources through county health departments for prenatal care and prevention of teenage pregnancies to families across the state, particularly those in rural and urban, inner-city areas. The effort became known as the Healthy Children Initiative.

There will be a visitation on Friday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Honey Alexander Center, 2400 Clifton Ave. in Nashville.

Another a visitation will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway in Nashville followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m.
