The South was well represented on stage last Thursday in Mobile when Texas-based Giovannie and the Hired Guns and Mobile-based Love the Hate performed alongside California-based band Classless Act.

Love the Hate, formed in Mobile in 2015 according to their artist bio page, took the stage right around 8 p.m.

They immediately launched into a high energy tune for a modest hometown crowd at Soul Kitchen in downtown Mobile, a crowd that grew as the music continued.

At times, the crowd was so loud that it was almost hard to hear the group performing.

The energy continued when Los Angeles band Classless Act, who are opening for Giovannie and the Hired Guns while on a tour of their own called “It’s the Most Wonderful Tour of the Year ‘22,” arrived on stage.

You could probably count how many times frontman Derek Day kept the microphone on the ground with one hand. You’d run out of hands though if you attempted to count how many times Day interacted with the crowd, which included running back and forth in the pit in front of the stage, as well as running through the middle and back of the crowd on the floor.

“Thursday is the new Saturday, b------,” Day exclaimed before the end of his group’s set.

The energy reached a fever pitch once Giovannie & the Hired Guns came out. In an interview last week with AL.com, frontman Giovannie Yanez said that a show first timer should expect tears and high energy.

Both of which were seen during the set, which included many of their hit songs including “Ramon Ayala”, “Overrated” and “You and Me.”

Of course, the set also included an encore, but not before allowing the crowd to chant Yanez’s name over and over. Before the group officially left the stage, Yanez thanked them for such a great turnout, especially on a Thursday night. Then, he did what any energetic frontman would do (or should do), met his fans at the merch table.
