TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka man wanted in connection with a missing woman from Omaha has been arrested in Belize.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, authorities say that Aldrick Scott, 47, of Topeka, who was wanted in connection with the disappearance of Cari Allen, 43, of Omaha, Neb., has been arrested in Belize. Scott was arrested on Tuesday.

Scott was wanted on a Douglas Co., Neb., arrest warrant for kidnapping.

7 NEWS in Belize reports that U.S. fugitive Scott was arrested on Caye Caulker Island.

WOWT reported that Scott was turned in by a local on the island, Shalton Fuentes, who let Scott live with him and gave him work at his barbeque restaurant.

“While I was socializing with him, he was at my home for like four days, from the four days now, I fed him and I clothed him,” says Fuentes.

Fuentes checked Scott’s information online after he said his name was Nelson. When he found Scott was wanted, he reported him to the police and the U.S. embassy.

“I played a role with the feds here in Belize. So the role that I played I told the people what was taking place with him,” says Fuentes.

Scott was picked up and transported by Interpol to the mainland where Embassy officials confirmed he was wanted in connection to the kidnapping.

Scott is believed to be on his way to Houston TX, or already in Houston as of Wednesday night.

The Douglas Co., Neb., Sheriff’s Office says that officials worked with the Topeka Police Department in an attempt to locate Scott and Allen.

While in Topeka, officials said they learned Scott had boarded a flight and left the United States. The investigation continued to Scott’s home in Topeka and a subsequent arrest warrant was issued.

Investigators said they have been searching wooded areas and fields near her home along with a landfill.

Allen was last seen on Nov. 20 at her Omaha home. It remains unclear where she may be.

Authorities this week were searching near 45th and Burlingame in Topeka. However, they would not confirm if it was associated with Allen’s disappearance, instead only saying that they were assisting an outside agency.

13 NEWS asked Nebraska authorities last week about the possibility that Scott had fled the country, however, they declined to comment.

WOWT says they learned Scott already was on his way back to the U.S., and it’s expected they’ll take him to Houston, where another hearing will be held to send him to Nebraska.

The extradition treaty between the U.S. and Belize was signed on March 30, 2002.

A kidnapping conviction in Nebraska carries a sentence of up to 50 years in prison.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that officials are still working to locate Allen.

Anyone with information about the case has been urged to contact law enforcement at 402-444-6000.

A GoFundMe has been created to help fund the search for Allen.
