Free Medical Clinic Open At Sanibel Fire Station

by SC Publisher Shannen Hayes

A free medical clinic has been set up since November in front of the Sanibel Fire Station, 2351 Palm Ridge Rd. Dr. Carl Schultz is among the four volunteer doctors staffing the small trailer where aid for wounds and other medical-related issues can be treated. Flu shots, including the vaccine for those aged 65+), tetanus shots, and assessment of respiratory issues like cough, flu, pneumonia and bronchitis are also available free of charge.

“We are an overstaffed aid station for the walking wounded,” said Dr. Schultz. “We are here because people are working to clean up (from Hurricane Ian) and if they get a cut or wound, they don’t have go off the island to the emergency room and be done working for the day. They can come here for treatment, stay on the island and be back to work the same day.”

The medical clinic is generally open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, as long as there is a doctor available. The clinic is made possible by the Lee County Medical Society in partnership with Lee EMS and Broward County Medical Corp.
