Slaughterhouse cleaner ordered to obey child labor laws after Nebraska injury
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A company that cleans hundreds of slaughterhouses across the country, including in Nebraska, has been ordered to comply with child labor laws by a federal judge.
This all comes from an investigation into Packers Sanitation Services Inc.
It was accused of allowing at least 50 teenagers to perform dangerous tasks at plants.
Investigators say they discovered that a 13-year-old had been badly burned by chemicals used to clean the JBS plant in Grand Island.
They were also told by some of the teens that everyone knew there were minors.
Investigators say in one instance, a Social Security number claimed by an employee listed them as 129 years old.
Packers Sanitation Services has also promised to hire an outside consultant to provide compliance training and allow unannounced visits to job sites.
