(KNSI) — Central Minnesota will return to a more active weather pattern over the next several days.

The National Weather Service says Wednesday morning, a moderate to heavy band of snow will blow through, leaving behind a quick one to three inches of snow in its wake. Just enough to mess up the roads. Wednesday night will be cold and clear, and the sun will poke out on Thursday, but Thursday night, that changes again.

Thursday night, forecasters say accumulating snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain, is expected through Friday morning along and south of Interstate 94. The heaviest snow is expected to fall across southern Minnesota, with three to five inches likely.

The National Weather Service is keeping an eye on another storm system that could bring more accumulating snow and wintery precipitation to the area next week.
