Funeral Services Today (Wednesday) for Educator, Local Volunteer, Maple Lake Resident, Lorraine Newkirk

Funeral services are scheduled for today (Wednesday) for a longtime Maple Lake resident, former educator and community volunteer.

Lorraine Newkirk passed away December 2nd at the age of 83.

She graduated from Foley High School in 1957, then graduated with a degree in English, Social Studies and Secondary Education from St. Cloud State University in 1962.

Lorraine taught 8th grade English in Coon Rapids, then returned to St. Cloud State where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling.

She returned to the Coon Rapids Middle and Junior High School as a Guidance Counselor from 1971 until her retirement in 1998. In her retirement, she was the Teen Parent Program Coordinator at the Wright Technical School in Buffalo until 2008.

Lorraine was also a 4-H leader, Monticello Band Booster, served on the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital Board and was active at the Faith Lutheran Church of Monticello, where her funeral services will be held today.
