LV Classica Performs at Mesquite Library

The Las Vegas Classica music group performed in the Community Room at the Mesquite library branch on Friday evening, Dec. 2.
The seven-member group was led by Jimmy Cisneros, conductor and bass player.

The group has 13 members, but not all members are available to perform at all concerts. Each performer is a professional musician and part of another symphony orchestra or ensemble.

Attendees were given a unique experience in the small community room. The music-making was up close and personal.

The audience was treated to the beautiful, yet lively sounds of Bach and Beethoven with a few other handpicked holiday sounds in the mix. In addition, the listeners were close enough to grasp just how much the musicians enjoyed playing and the intensity of their music.

There were three violins, two bass, one flute and a keyboard. And the sound was exceptional! Carmel Salgado played the flute and is the vocal for the group.

Salgado has a beautiful classical voice singing “Beneath the Verdant Harbor” accompanied by only the bass.

Again with bass accompaniment, Salgado performed the theme to The Pink Panther on her flute, triangle and with a set of pink ears on her head. Salgado said that she has been playing the flute and singing for 26years.

“I formed this group during the pandemic when the full orchestra could not play anywhere,” Cisneros said. “I insist that we play the classical music in the exact key the way the author meant it to be played. Others sometimes change the key to make it easier on themselves to play. But we do not.”

Each piece they played showcased a different instrument and musician. It was a thoroughly enjoyable performance. Hopefully LV Classica will perform at the Mesquite Library again in the future.
