New Brockton’s mayor hands in her resignation

NEW BROCKTON, Ala. (WDHN) — A longtime officeholder in the Wiregrass says she plans to resign her position by the end of the year.

At Monday night’s New Brockton City Council meeting, Mayor Kathy Holley formally handed in her resignation.

Mayor Holley told the council due to mainly family obligations, she could no longer dedicate the time needed to run the city effectively.

In addition in her letter, she says “I can no longer deal with the chaos with individuals on the council. I can no longer be part of the direction of a couple of the councilmembers
are choosing to take our town.”

At the council’s next workshop session scheduled for the 19th of this month, the discussion will center on picking a replacement for Holley who served two separate stints as mayor.

Her resignation formally goes into effect on December 31st, 2022.
