KCPD investigating after woman found dead near 49th, Bellefontaine

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating after a woman was found shot to death inside a home Tuesday night.

Officers identified the victim as 22-year-old Shayla Curts.

The incident was reported just after 8 p.m. near E. 49th Street and Bellefontaine Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Curtis suffering from gunshot injuries and began CPR. She was then pronounced dead at the scene.

Initially, police were considering this a death investigation. Overnight, the department ruled the case will be investigated as a homicide.
