News10 viewer Gary asked "South Chiloquin Road and Highway 97 is a dangerous intersection for the 65 MPH speed limit. Can you check if ODOT has any plans to install a traffic light or at least reduce the speed limit from 65 MPH?"
News10 reached out to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), which sent the following statement:
We don’t have any current or upcoming projects for that specific intersection. Crash data for that intersection from 2016 through 2020 shows 2 accidents (one being property damage only, while the other did involve injury). There is a request in for a speed zone study in this area, but it will be at least another year before it’s complete. For more information on speed zone studies(also called investigations) click here.
Side note: We are working with the City of Chiloquin and the Klamath Tribes to secure funding and deliver transportation improvements along OR422 (also referred to as South Chiloquin Road) from US97 into the town of Chiloquin. Though these improvements don’t include the intersection itself, as more development takes place in the area and traffic volumes increase, we will be looking at intersection improvements for this location.
Thank you for your questions, Gary, hope that helps!
