DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN)— The new SpectraCare Crisis Diversion Center, planned to open in the summer of 2023, has received millions in funding from the state.
According to a release from the Dothan Chamber of Commerce, the SpectraCare Crisis Diversion Center received $7 million in funding from the Alabama State Legislature, the Alabama Department of Mental Health, and Governor Kay Ivey.
The project represents a total $9.4 million investment and will create another 160 jobs to support the operation.
Functioning in a similar fashion to a hospital emergency department, the Crisis Center will operate with an emphasis on behavioral health and no-wrong-door access to mental health and substance use.
Community members, law enforcement, and first responders will be able to take someone who is in a mental crisis to the Diversion Center for help.
The center will also offer crisis intervention and stabilization services which include triage, observation, short-term admission, psychiatric services, medication management, and case management.
We are excited to add this much-needed crisis center to SpectraCare’s current continuum of care. Located at 2740 Headland Avenue, the new facility is expected to open in May 2023 and will be one of six behavioral health crisis centers around the state.
SpectraCare is the largest provider of behavioral health care in the Southeast and has been serving the Wiregrass with 39 locations for over 50 years.
