1968 Corvette 427 Found In A Barn After 40 Years

The interesting story of a 1968 Chevy Corvette C3 began in 1974 when its owner, Big Block Mike, got into a heated controversy with the police. Due to an arrest warrant, Mike had to hide the car for more than four decades. The Red Corvette was eventually found in a barn and was documented by Junkyard Life on YouTube.

Junkyard Life was invited to the car’s relocation in Northern Alabama. Although it is not the first time this barn find has been featured, five years ago, the classic C3 was on the channel; however, the Corvette needed relocation because the building where it was parked was at risk of collapsing.

Mike was working near a dealership at an S&H Green stamp store while in high school. The Chevy dealership specialized in Corvette sales, and Mike liked such cars. Mike eventually bought the C3 Convertible, equipped with a big block 7.0-liter V8, for $2,900. As the owner of the fastest car in town, Mike soon became one of the cool kids on the block with some street cred.

However, the police in the area did not overlook Mike’s new reputation, and he got on the wrong side of the authorities. He had to lay low and hide his new purchase in the garage, where it stayed stuck until it was discovered.

What will happen to the car

The 1968 ‘Vette is currently undergoing some restoration, so we might see Mike back with his beloved car again. It is in horrible condition and would require much time and work to get back in shape. The outside would need thorough cleaning and repainting due to many years covered in dirt and debris and the worn-out paint job.

The rear panel is also quite damaged, and the interior would need a lot of work and changes. Although the upholstery seems manageable, the seats would need a power wash. The mechanical parts of the car, however, require an overhaul. The dashboard has several damaged panels, and the engine bay, which houses the big block 427 cu-in V8, seemed to have been an abode for different creatures over the last forty years. The rusty parts would need some changes, along with the lights and broken panels.

We look forward to its final look after the much-needed revamp.
