Two Salem teens were charged with criminal mischief on Monday after police say they were driving in circles on a baseball field at Gilmore Field City Park.
Officials say they received a call at 5:20 p.m. from a person walking their dog who reported a truck had been driven up and over the berm which surrounds a portion of the field.
The witness told police it was two male teenagers inside the truck. Officers located the two 16-year-olds with the truck, which had become high-centered when the teen driver tried to get the truck back over the berm.
Both teens were released to their parents, and police referred them to the Marion County Juvenile Department on charges of criminal mischief in the first degree.
In a statement to KATU News, the Salem-Keizer School District says "We are cooperating with the police investigation on this. We also have done an initial assessment of the damage to the baseball field and will see what it will take to get the field back to playable by the spring if possible. We do not have an estimate on the cost of repair at this time."
