KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - City of Killeen Chief of Police Charles Kimble has announced his plan to retire effective Jan. 27. 2023.

“I began my career more than three decades ago with a passion for serving and helping the citizens of this country,” Chief Kimble said. “The law enforcement community is a tight-knit group and I know I’ll always be a part of this family.”

The Killeen City Council voted unanimously on August 8, 2017 to appoint Kimble as the city’s new police chief. Kimble previously was the police chief in North Carolina and starting his law enforcement career in Wisconsin.

“The feedback I received from the interview panels and the public confirmed my belief that Charles Kimble is the right leader for our Police Department,” then Killeen City Manager Ron Olson said at the time.

Kimble has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience and was recently one of three finalists to be sheriff of King County in Washington state.

“Under Kimble’s tenure, the overall crime rate has dropped, started a homeless outreach program, a new downtown community engagement unit, a new training division has been created, officer training hours have doubled, two new K9′s have been added to the patrol division,” said Janell J. Lewis Ford, spokesman for the City of Killeen.

More information about the next steps for the police department will be released as they become available.
