A Creston man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly stabbing an Urbandale man in the parking lot of a West Des Moines Hy-Vee.
Dakota Ray Nordstrom, 30, of 1106 W. Montgomery St, Creston, was charged with attempted murder, willful injury causing serious injury, going armed with intent and first-degree burglary.
The incident began about 5:30 a.m. Monday in the 1700 block of Jordan Creek Parkway, where Nordstrom allegedly “did attack and assault the victim using a knife, stabbing him, inside a vehicle that was in the parking lot of the Hy-Vee,” according to court records.
Witnesses to the incident told officers of the West Des Moines Police Department that shortly before the “attack, Nordstrom told witnesses in another vehicle that they were going to witness a murder,” according to court records.
The witnesses told the officers “that during the assault, Nordstrom was making statements that he was going to kill the victim.”
The victim sustained non-life-threatening stab injuries and was later treated at a local hospital. Nordstrom told the officers “that he had stabbed himself during the incident also” and suffered a non-life-threatening injury as well, according to court records.
Nordstrom is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $75,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 16 in Dallas County District Court.
Nordstrom was convicted of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon in August 2022 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault in 2017 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-display or use of a weapon and second-degree harassment in 2016 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of domestic abuse assault in 2013 in Polk County District Court.
