The only homeless shelter in Northern Westchester is one step closer to relocating.
Last week, Peekskill Common Council unanimously approved a zoning text amendment to allow transitional housing.
It paves the way for Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill, which runs the Jan Peek House, to expand its footprint to a proposed three-building development on Lower South Street.
Business owners in the nearby Blue Mountain Plaza shopping center oppose the move. They worry crime will increase and that the new building could create environmental hazards.
