Brazen suspects who drifted, did donuts in front of law enforcement sought by Detroit police

Officers with the Detroit Police Department are searching for suspects who brazenly drifted and did donuts in front of officers at an intersection over the weekend.

DETROIT (WWJ) - Officers with the Detroit Police Department are searching for suspects who brazenly drifted and did donuts in front of officers at an intersection over the weekend.

In video captured of the incident and posted to social media, at least two vehicles — including a white Dodge Charger and a yellow Ford Mustang — can be seen driving recklessly at Seven Mile and Greenfield around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

At one point, someone threw gasoline in a circle and lit it on fire in the middle of the intersection while one Detroit police squad car was seen at the scene.

The Detroit Police Department said in a statement Monday evening that officers did not interfere to avoid damage or possible other accidents.

The incident was cleared of the intersection within minutes, but now the hunt is on for those involved.

Detroit Police Chief James White vowed to crack down on dangerous driving, including drifting and drag racing, when he took command in 2021.

In addition, police said donuts, spinouts and burnouts present hazards while on the road and would not be tolerated a traffic offenses due to their dangerous nature.

As reported by the Detroit News, DPD has spent over $1 million to enforce the crackdown, which came after several deaths and injuries were reported due to the the activities.
