The mayor ousted by Woonsocket's City Council in October was sworn in to a fifth term on Tuesday night.
Lisa Baldelli-Hunt was reelected in November, weeks after she was thrown out of office by the City Council.
She promised during her inaugural address to push for changes to the city charter to prevent the council from removing a mayor elected by the people.
"To make certain that no other mayor of this city is ever removed from office by five people when thousands of residents have chosen who they want to lead, so your voices will never be silenced and your vote will never be stripped again," Baldelli-Hunt said.
The City Council voted to remove her from her position in October on charges that she violated the city charter and did not perform her duties.
Baldelli-Hunt ran unopposed on the ballot in November and ended up with more than 75% of the vote.
Write-ins accounted for the other quarter, and among them was council member Denise Sierra.
Sierra was the one who brought the charges against Baldelli-Hunt.
Of the seven City Council members elected in November, three of the four who supported her removal lost.
"The people recognize there was an injustice, they recognize that their voices were silenced, that their vote was stripped, and they were going to make certain they came out and reacted to that - and they did,” said Baldelli-Hunt.
