Herman Andrews

Herman Andrews, age 84 of Hurt, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born September 24, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late John Mark Andrews and Mattie Reynolds Andrews. He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Nancy Farmer Andrews; four brothers, Cedric Andrews, Bill Andrews, Joe Andrews and Jackie Andrews; and two sisters, Anna Meadows and Minnie Parker. Mr. Andrews currently attended Summersett Baptist Church and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church for many years where he was a Trustee and member of the Methodist Men’s Group. Earlier in his life he was a Youth Leader, Youth Choir Leader, played on the men’s church softball team and coached the women’s church team. He loved gospel music and played the guitar singing with his family and The Spiritual Life Singers.

Herman retired from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. Earlier in life he worked for the Altavista Journal and was a part time mechanic and was always able to fix anything for his family. He was a member of the Hurt Motley Ruritan Club, past president and Ruritan of the Year. He enjoyed hunting and being in the outdoors, watching all sports especially baseball and softball. He loved to tell his hunting stores “of the Big Buck”, and of old days growing up on the farm by the Banister River, working in tobacco, milking the dairy cows, and his days on the Renan High School Baseball and Basketball teams.

He is survived by his loving companion, Terecia Hamlett of Hurt; one son, Rev. Jason Andrews and wife, Jessica of Gretna; one daughter, Teresa Wyatt and husband, Barry of Gretna; one sister, Arlene Bowling of Gretna; six grandchildren, Jacob Wyatt & wife, Maria, Meghan Pingilley and husband, Jonathan, Rebecca Andrews, Emily Andrews, Marie Andrews and Noah Andrews; and four great-grandchildren, Eli Pingilley, Charlee Marie Pingilley, Luca Wyatt and Liam Andrew Wyatt.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022 at Summersett Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Andrews. Burial will follow at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Summersett Baptist Church, Zion United Methodist Church or to The Gideons International.
