Geno Smith may be playing as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but even the best quarterbacks and the best offenses need a balanced attack.
Certainly, the Seahawks have that, especially with the emergence of rookie 2nd round pick Kenneth Walker III.
Walker III was thrust into a starting role after Rashaad Penny broke a bone in his lower leg in an October loss to the Saints. Kenneth has done fantastic things in that role, complimented especially by DeeJay Dallas in the blocking and receiving game.
But, even those stars weren't able to finish Sunday's win over the Rams.
Both Walker III and Dallas left the game with ankle injuries. DeeJay is looking at a sprain while Walker III has more of a strain.
"I don’t have much more detail about it." Carroll said of Walker's injury.
"He has an area of his ankle that is sore, that he jammed. There is some strained tissue in there, but it’s not an ankle sprain. It’s not a high ankle sprain, it’s not a lateral sprain like we normally report on, it’s different than that.”
So, to list it, the Seahawks have running back injuries to:
Kenneth Walker III
DeeJay Dallas
Travis Homer
Rashaad Penny.
As for who may actually play, in the event none of the aforementioned players are healthy in time for Sunday's 4:25 kickoff with Carolina?
"That’s a really good question. I can’t give you much right now to go on, we will wait on that. There are going to be some questions about how the guys make it back, so we will have to wait and see how it goes. Right now, I can’t tell you.”
Next in line, Carroll did say, would be Tony Jones, Jr. who played on Sunday.
Pete did say if necessary the Hawks could bring up a member of the practice squad. Godwin Igwebuike, a former Detroit Lion and Darwin Thompson who played for the Chiefs are currently on the Hawks practice squad at the running back position.
Carroll's next update is on Wednesday from team headquarters, the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton.
