New Hampshire State Police are cracking down on speeding and aggressive driving on the Everett Turnpike.
In four hours Monday morning, troopers and local police pulled 55 vehicles over in Merrimack as part of an initiative they're calling “Operation Turnpike Protection.”
A trooper stopped one driver from Massachusetts going 99 mph. The same trooper pulled him over again a short time later going 106 mph. He was arrested for reckless driving.
"It definitely seems like you have to put an effort into not getting into a wreck,” said Jeff Marcum of Milford.
News 9 spoke with some drivers near Exit 10 by the Merrimack Outlets who said they're not feeling safe on the roads.
"Everybody's on their phone and everybody's going fast," said Ryan Melendy of Merrimack. “Especially this exit right now with the Christmas season with the outlets, it only makes it worse."
State police have been targeting the Everett Turnpike for months.
During a patrol in Nashua on Oct. 5, troopers pulled over 147 vehicles in five hours. On Nov. 5, state police announced they stopped more than 1,300 vehicles over several weeks in Nashua.
Most drivers they stopped were going at least 20 miles over the speed limit.
State police said this operation will run through the entire month of December.
