The Town of Brookhaven Planning Board approved the Oak Street Subdivision Project in Port Jefferson Station on Monday.
The proposal to build 33 houses near the contaminated Lawrence Aviation site now is able to start.
Neighbors have been asking the board to consider an environment study, crumbling infrastructure and traffic concerts at a public hearing.
Town board members said the plan can proceed without further study in a unanimous vote because it complies with a land-use plan from 2014.
