Stand with Ukraine KC is holding a fundraiser to help buy winter coats and other items those living in Ukraine.
"New things are happening, and people are suffering every day," Nataliya Meyer, of Stand with Ukraine KC.
Ukrainian-born seamstress Meyer said she worries about her country.
"I have a friend of mine who would just reach out to me and say I just wanted to let you know I'm still alive, which is terrifying," Meyer said.
Stand With Ukraine KC is raising money to buy winter coats and other items for those living in Ukraine.
"What we're trying to do is help people that can't get help otherwise," she said.
The group worked with Minsky's at 51st and Main streets on Monday. Twenty percent of all orders that say "Eat for Ukraine" will go toward supporting the group's effort.
"It's very hard to see people going through this and it's not like life was easy to begin with and it's just terrifying where the kids are going to grow," Meyer said.
The group said weekly war protests on the Plaza have now become more of an occasional thing and they worry that a lot of people will forget about what's going on in Ukraine.
"I do feel like at the beginning of the war people have just been in shock, and now they are used to hearing it," Meyer said. "Just because it happened yesterday does not make it less painful today."
