Human remains found wrapped in tarp in Mohave County desert

YUCCA, AZ — A homicide investigation is underway in Mohave County after human remains were discovered.

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a possible body in a remote desert area in Yucca near Alamo Road.

The person who called authorities said he was out riding his off-road vehicle in the desert when he located the remains.

When deputies arrived to check it out they noticed a large pile of debris. When they got a closer look, deputies located the remains amongst the debris wrapped in a tarp.

The remains appear to be those of an adult male, according to MCSO, but identification has not yet been made.

On February 13, 2023, officials released a description of the man and his belongings as they continue working to learn his identity.

He had boots that were brown in color “Durango Rebel” men's boot size 11-11 1/2, the shirt is a PFG (Professional Fishing Gear) t-shirt which was dark in color, and blue jeans size 39W and 34L.

The victim was also wearing a silver link-style necklace, a silver ring, and a silver watch with a metal-style band (unknown brand).

He had a Bic-style lighter that was located with a novelty cover of a cell phone with "Fishing is calling you".

He also had a tattoo of the name Chase, with a date of 5/13. Officials say the last two numbers were illegible.

The victim is described as being between 6' to 6'4", between 200-220 pounds, and estimated to be in his late 40s to early 50s at the time of his death.

The remains were turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office to perform an autopsy and determine a cause of death.
