Alma Jean Allen, 85, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at her home with family by her side.

A native of Lumpkin County, Georgia, she was born Aug. 29, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Wesley Grizzle and Maybelle Grizzle and stepmother Allie Grizzle. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister Stella Grizzle and Jack Abernathy, the father of her five daughters.

She is survived by daughters, Ann Abernathy of Cleveland, Linda Stone of Sautee, Debbie Pruitt (Chuck) of Cleveland, Jackie Tone (the late Mike Tone) of Cleveland and Darlene Rain (Dennis); her sister Dorothy Dover of Murrayville; grandchildren Jonathan Robinson (Joanna), Jessi Stone (Matthew Welborn), Jaxson Stone, Kyle Pruitt (Amber), Anna Beth Doss (Adam), Cherith Pruitt, Michael Tone Jr., Caleb Threlkeld and Makeys Rain; and great-grandchildren Jack Doss, August Robinson, Tallulah Robinson, Maddie Pruitt and Jackson Pruitt.

Jean worked at Talon in Cleveland for many years and then owned and operated The Snak Shak in Helen for many years. She loved flowers and took great pride in growing beautiful gardens around her home for many years, completing all the hard work by herself. She worked hard all her life to help put food on the table for her family of seven. She was a go-getter and never one to be idle so these last few years were rough on her when she could no longer do the things she loved.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jean’s caregivers Crystal Knox and Misty Bailey.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.
